To quote someone else in this thread "show me proof", in terms of actual statements given under duress and the results of that information. Until you or I see that we are both really just hand-waving...
indeed, but if those in favor of EI can't actually show some support for the claim that it's actually useful, then it seems to me the argument in favor is reduced to one that's basically an emotional response. That doesn't seem to me to be enough to justify using EI
....As for the guy in the video, he's really the only one out there that I have seen that is so vocal about the ineffectiveness of E.I.....
I don't think that's true at all. During the Bush years there were quite a number of people from the intelligence community that said the same thing. There comments were the usual basis for responses to "show me proof" to refute the idea that EI is useful

That is a tremendous amount of storage. Does anyone know if this is even comparable to Google?
Well based on the news that Apple's new NC data center was the largest for a single company. I would say yes.

Yes, we all have doubts. I, for one, think it is a scam. Verizon et al will charge you to get your "own" data once you exceed your "cap". And one well placed terrorist act will erase any data center anywhere. Back up and hold your data. Do not rely on the cloud.
One fire will wipe out your house, your computer, your backup drive and your backup DVDs.
If a a data center is well run, they will be replicating everything offsite, possibly even in more than one location.

This comes really, really late.. and with the iP5 around the corner. In all honesty, I don't see how some paint issues could have delayed this 10 months back

Oh, well boo-hoo that it costs $100m to make a peice of crap movie. Some of the best films of the last ten years have been smaller, independent productions with budgets less than $20m. So, how about you all stop wasting your money and focus on story and character rather than big marketing campaigns to convince people that there's anything at all redeeming about the over-hyped ************ you release.
And on that tip, think about this big studios: If you're getting $8-$12 in sheer profit for a movie download, there's a good chance this money is coming from someone who may not have paid at all, as people who currently steal movies from the internet, already download them. There's an incentive there to get something high quality and that is cheaper than buying the retail boxed product.
Also, I don't have the numbers in front of me, but you big studios are actually cutting out one of the middle-men in partnering with apple, as Apple becomes both distributor and retailer. Right? So, less mark-ups for other people - no packaging, shipping costs, no big displays for online downloads. That's going to save you money too.
So, basically, stop whining.
Michael Winterbottom's Tristram Shandy... yeahhhhhhhhhhh.

Yes you are certainly charging way too little. My basic sites start at $500 and go up from there depending on what the client wants. Usually I charge it by the job and in some cases, there will be add on's and I usually charge $50-$75 per hour for that work. I have a few NPO's and for them I start my quotes to them at $300 for the job.
From the sounds of this guy you're dealing with, I would just move on and forget him. Finish whatever you've started and end it there.
Thanks again for the reply and the pricing advice. The MacRumors Design Forum is a very welcoming and supportive community. :)

Manwhile I've been enjoying Premiere Pro CS5 - and now Avid...Avid seems smoooth playback wise on my MBP - where FCP and PPro needs to render all the time - even for simple crops and transitions (wtf?!), and I might as well get comfortable using what the pro's use - Thing is, if you want jobs as an editor, many companies are using Avid obviously. If we're just talking prosumer or whatever, FCP/PPro is perfectly fine...I don't mind knowing the basics of all three programs though!

How? Unless the power outages were each 6 hours long, there is no way. However, since it's full blown snow storms up north, I guess those must be common, just like down here in Honduras. Albeit for entire different reasons:D:p:eek:
I forgot to mention, if anyone has a PS3, download the Folding client to it! It works towards keeping our pace!
well the 2684s take much longer for me to complete. on top of that, i wasn't home when the power outages hit, so it took awhile to get everything back up and running. and then another power outage...
yeah i have my ps3 folding when i'm not using it.
I usually just use my PS3 guess I should ramp it up then? Running full throttle on MBP i7 for a while! Using laptop on my lap.... the pain it burns! Ah my legs on fire!
yeah might as well fold with your ps3 when you aren't using it. yeah i wouldn't use that mbp on your lap
I wonder how many team members don't even know about the passkey/bonus system? Could we up output by educating them about that, as well as client configuration?
hey not a bad idea. just start a new thread about it

Apple is widely expected to introduce a new iPhone later this year. That new iPhone will likely be a global device (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/21/verizon-cfo-reveals-next-iphone-to-be-a-global-device), incorporating both CDMA and GSM technologies into a single design.
I'm starting to think the next iPhone will be the albatross of iPhones. The A5 chip is BIG.... and I hope the Qualcomm chip is just as small and efficient as the existing 3G chip (I'm assuming it won't be any better?), since this whole "world phone" really means nothing to anyone except Verizon customers (who will be able to roam to GSM).
I'm due for an upgrade (2 year cycle), but my wife on the matching 2 year cycle seems to be getting the better deal :-/
Still, rumours are rumours. We'll see what we see. I'm enjoying my iPad2 :)
